HOTEL CALIFORNIA: LA FROM THE BYRDS TO THE EAGLES

BBC4 - 2011

NOMINATED FOR GRIERSON AWARD FOR BEST ARTS FILM

CHRIS WILSON - PRODUCER & DIRECTOR

A highly acclaimed feature length documentary telling the inside story of how a bunch of hippies transformed LA from a kooky backwater to the artistic and commercial hub of the music industry. Alongside extensive and never before seen archive footage, the film features key figures including musicians David Crosby, Graham Nash, J. D. Souther, Bernie Leadon and Bonnie Raitt; music industry bosses such as David Geffen, Jac Holzman, Ron Stone and Peter Asher; and legendary LA scenesters Henry Diltz, Pamela Des Barres and Ned Doheny. It’s a story of artistic and commercial evolution from the socially-conscious acoustic folk rock of the Woodstock generation to the coked-out stadium excesses of corporate rock - all set against the bucolic paradise of LA’s Laurel Canyon.
